Uber Introduces Variable Pricing Service to Additional Tier 2 and 3 Cities Across India

Uber, the prominent ride-hailing platform, is currently experimenting with its adaptable pricing feature in numerous tier 2 and 3 cities in India. This expansion aims to grow its user community by enabling passengers to propose specific fares for their rides.

Dubbed Uber Flex, this flexible pricing service underwent its initial testing in India in October of the previous year.

TechCrunch reports that the service has recently broadened its reach to include cities such as Aurangabad, Ajmer, Bareilly, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Gwalior, Indore, Jodhpur, and Surat, among several others.

Uber Flex is currently undergoing trials in Lebanon, Kenya, and Latin America. In contrast to Uber’s conventional pricing structure, Flex empowers riders to propose their preferred fare. From nine available pricing options, with a default price pre-set.

Riders have the flexibility to choose a fare, which is then presented to nearby drivers. These drivers can decide to accept or decline the ride based on the proposed fare.

Drivers also have the opportunity to present their rates to the user. Users can choose from the offers made by various drivers, and once a selection is made, the ride is confirmed.

InDrive, an alternative ride-hailing application, presently permits riders to manually input a designated fare. In February of the previous year, inDrive secured $150 million in funding, with the stated purpose of utilizing the funds for customer acquisition and retention, as well as to facilitate ongoing expansion.
